Privacy Policy

What information we collect

When you complete the Get Matched form we collect your first and last name, email address, mobile number, and details about your lending situation. This includes what you are looking at (first home, refinance, investment or next purchase), where you are in the process or when your fixed rate expires, and an approximate lending amount. We also collect technical information such as the page the form was submitted from. If you sign up for rate updates, we collect your email address for that purpose.

If you provide information about another person, such as a joint applicant or partner, you confirm you have their permission to share it with us.

Why we collect it

We collect this information to match you with a licensed mortgage adviser and to let that adviser contact you about your enquiry. By submitting the form, you agree that we and your matched adviser may contact you by phone, email or text message about your enquiry. We may also use your contact details to follow up on your enquiry, and to send rate updates where you have asked for them. You can unsubscribe from rate updates at any time using the link in any email.

Who we share it with

Your details are shared with licensed mortgage advisers for the purpose of providing mortgage advice. Advisers in our network may have commercial arrangements with MortgageCompare. Those advisers are responsible for their own handling of your information and will provide their own disclosure information when they contact you. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for unrelated marketing.

How your information is stored

Form submissions are stored in a secured, access-controlled database hosted by our technology providers. Some providers may store data outside New Zealand. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is protected by safeguards comparable to those under New Zealand privacy law. We keep information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected or as required by law.

Cookies, pixels and advertising

This website uses cookies and advertising pixels, including Meta Pixel and Google Tag Manager, to measure website performance and the effectiveness of our advertising. These tools may collect device and browsing information. You can control cookies through your browser settings and opt out of personalised advertising through the relevant provider's settings.

Access and correction

You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you and to request that it be corrected. Send requests to privacy@mortgagecompare.nz. We may need to verify your identity before actioning a request, and we will respond within the timeframes required by the Privacy Act 2020.

Complaints

If you are not satisfied with how your information has been handled, contact us at privacy@mortgagecompare.nz in the first instance. You may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
